Benjamin Williams Leader was born in 1831. He studied at the Royal Academy in London, and was very successful as a specialized landscape painter. Leader often depicted Wales and Scottish mountain landscapes. He also painted genre scenes of children or English land, that were highly sought after. Examples of his oeuvre are preserved today, for instance, at the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Tate Gallery.
